BNWLA is a Non-profit, Non- political and non-government organization, established in 1979 through committed efforts of some of the prominent women lawyers, and subsequently registered as a legal body in 1981 under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (act xxi of 1860). Later, the organization received registrations from the Department of Women Affairs and NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh.
